THE CONE BEAM GUY BIO

Dr. Bruno Azevedo, DDS, MS, internationally recognized as one of the foremost educators and pioneers in 3D dental imaging, is renowned for his groundbreaking expertise and highly sought‑after lectures on advanced CBCT applications across all dental specialties. With a particular emphasis on endodontic diagnosis and treatment, he is regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on integrating CBCT into complex clinical workflows to achieve greater diagnostic precision and elevate patient care.

The son of one of Latin America’s pioneers in oral and maxillofacial radiology, Dr. Azevedo was immersed in dental imaging from an early age, working in his family’s laboratory and developing the technical skills that would define his career. He earned his dental degree at Gama Filho University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before pursuing advanced training in dental radiology at the prestigious USP Bauru Dental Radiology Program. An early adopter and innovator in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), he acquired his first CBCT scanner in 2003 and, in 2004, developed the first free CBCT viewer — innovations that garnered him international attention and led to an invitation to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). There, under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Langlais, he completed a Master’s in Dental Diagnostic Sciences and a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

His extensive radiology work with 3D imaging in clinical endodontics inspired him to pursue a second specialization. Dr. Azevedo completed his endodontic residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, home to one of the most technologically advanced endodontic programs in the United States. Training under Dr. Fred Barnett and Dr. Stephen Niemczyk, he mastered advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques with a strong emphasis on integrating cutting‑edge tools into clinical workflows. During his residency, he worked extensively with all major laser technologies in endodontics, a field in which he continues to serve as a consultant to help clinicians optimize outcomes in complex cases.

Academically, Dr. Azevedo served as a founding faculty member of the Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine, where he helped design an innovative, integrated dental curriculum. Later, as Director and Division Head at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, he implemented a comprehensive 3D imaging program across all specialties and residency levels.

With over 22 years of experience in CBCT technology — particularly in endodontics — Dr. Azevedo has authored numerous peer‑reviewed papers and book chapters and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. He is the creator of the internationally acclaimed “Cone Beam Imaging Courses”, a results‑driven training program structured around his Six Pillars of Imaging: Technology Setup, Image Acquisition, Data Correction & Optimization, Volume Navigation, Image Interpretation & Reporting, and Advanced Applications. This framework equips dentists with mastery over every stage of CBCT use, from hardware and software integration to advanced clinical applications such as 3D printing, surgical guides, and navigation systems.

Known worldwide as “The Cone Beam Guy,” Dr. Azevedo has lectured in over 20 countries, training thousands of clinicians. His mission is to empower dental professionals to see the invisible and achieve the impossible — improving diagnostic accuracy, elevating patient care, and advancing clinical efficiency through mastery of CBCT imaging.
